Treatment Methodology

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)/Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome

are conditions that occurs when a baby is exposed to drugs, particularly opioids, while in the womb. After birth, these little ones can experience withdrawal symptoms as their bodies adjust to life without the substances they were exposed to. This can be a difficult time for both the babies and their families.
With the right care, these newborns can be on their path to health and happiness.  After medically stabilized in the hospital NICU, these infants often receive specialized care in a resident 24/7 treatment center using the techniques described below. During the specialized  treatments described below.
These treatments require custom detailed records not available in more electronic health record (eHR) systems. This includes regular observance and 'scoring' of medical and behavioral traits (usually using a variant of the Finnegan Scores), application of special feeding, pharmacologic programs, and specialized therapeutic handling. Some cases allow cohabitation with the mother using the Eat/Sleep/Console (ESC) program.
Early treatment can totally change the life trajectory of these infants.
